Routine Cleaning

Having your teeth cleaned regularly by a dentist is crucial to maintaining your dental health, and the health of your children’s teeth. Routine cleaning is the foundation of good dental health.

During a dental cleaning, our hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from the surface of your teeth. Good home care removes a majority of plaque, but only a professional cleaning can completely clear off all of the tartar that builds up around the gumline over time.

After your cleaning, Dr. Brice Chang will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and existing dental restorations. He will also review your X-rays with you and evaluate any areas of concern that were noted by our hygienist during your cleaning. (Even if I don’t do the exam for everyone, you can leave it like this. Usually, hygienist will let us know and schedule an appointment if needed)

We incorporate digital X-rays and intraoral cameras into all of our routine exams, because many issues with the teeth and jaw bones can’t be seen by the naked eye. Digital X-rays are faster and more comfortable than traditional X-rays, and they emit significantly less radiation. Because they don’t require any harsh chemical processing, the images are available within seconds.

Oral Cancer Screenings

When it’s caught early, oral cancer is one of the most curable types of cancer. However, many of the signs and symptoms can go unnoticed for years, increasing the likelihood that cancer will spread to surrounding tissues. We screen for signs of oral cancer during every routine dental exam, because early detection and treatment can save more than just your oral health – it can save your life.

No Insurance? Our Membership Plan Has You Covered

At Brookings Dentals Arts we truly care about our patients’ dental health. While many people are covered by their employer’s dental insurance, other people do not have access to dental insurance. We provide a unique, affordable financial plan for individual patients and families with no insurance. Members of the Brookings Dental Gold Plan receive up to two teeth cleanings per year, standard dental exams and X-rays. It’s a straightforward and affordable way to maintain the health of your teeth, and preventing painful and expensive dental issues down the road.

Does Dental Work Give You Anxiety?

A little anxiety isn’t uncommon, but if you break into a sweat just thinking about sitting in the dental chair, we can help! Brookings Dental Arts provides two sedation options, nitrous oxide and conscious sedation.

Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is one of the safest anti-anxiety agents used in dentistry. Nitrous oxide has mild, short-lived effects and can be administered with just a mask over the nose, making it a great solution for adults and children alike.

Conscious sedation is an option for patients with more severe anxiety, and for people with complex treatment needs. We can perform almost any treatment with the help of conscious sedation, from deep cleanings and fillings to wisdom teeth removal.
