Our team emphasizes preventive dentistry because we believe that most serious dental problems can be avoided with routine checkups and cleanings. If your smile ever does need a little extra TLC, whether it’s a filling, a crown, or a dental implant, Dr. Chang will work with you to design a conservative, customized treatment plan.
- Routine Cleanings & Exams
During a dental cleaning, our hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from the surface of your teeth. Good home care removes a majority of plaque, but only a professional cleaning can completely clear off all of the tartar that builds up around the gumline over time.
After your cleaning, Dr. Chang will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and existing dental restorations. He will also review your X-rays with you and evaluate any areas of concern that were noted by our hygienist during your cleaning.
- Low-Radiation Digital X-rays
We incorporate digital X-rays and intraoral cameras into all of our routine exams, because many serious issues with the teeth and jaw bones can't be seen by the naked eye.
Digital X-rays are faster and more comfortable than traditional X-rays, and they emit significantly less radiation. Because they don't require any harsh chemical processing, the images are available within seconds.
- Dental Sealants & Fluoride Treatments
Dental sealants fill in the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the molars, an area where food particles commonly get caught and cause cavities. Sealants can be applied quickly with no shots or drilling, effectively protecting teeth for years.
Fluoride protects teeth from decay and can even reverse the early stages of decay. Many people think that fluoride treatments are just for kids, but people of all ages can benefit from the cavity-preventing properties of fluoride.
- Custom Athletic Mouthguards
High-impact sports and activities, from football to gymnastics, pose an increased risk of dental injury. Custom athletic mouthguards not only protect your teeth and soft tissues from injury, but they also help prevent more serious trauma that can occur as a result of hard hits to the jaw or head.
- Nightguards for Teeth Grinding
Although it’s estimated that 8-16% of adults grind their teeth or clench their jaw during sleep, most don’t know they’re doing it. This clenching and grinding puts a great deal of pressure on the teeth and jaw muscles, which can result in cracked teeth, damaged restorations, jaw pain, and chronic headaches. A comfortable, custom-fitted nightguard made by Dr. Chang will protect your teeth and give your jaw a rest.
- Treatment for Halitosis (Bad Breath)
Everyone has bad breath every now and then, whether it’s caused by the foods we eat or inadequate brushing and flossing. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing at least once are the best ways to keep your breath fresh. Breaking a tobacco habit (smoking or chewing tobacco) can significantly improve your oral health and the way your breath smells, too. If you’re experiencing chronic bad breath that can’t be controlled by habit changes, or if it’s accompanied by other concerns like a dry, burning sensation in your mouth, schedule an appointment with Dr. Chang. He will determine the cause of your bad breath and help you find a long-lasting solution.
- Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer is one of the most curable types of cancer when it’s caught early. However, many of the signs and symptoms go unnoticed for years, increasing the likelihood that the cancer will spread to surrounding tissues. Dr. Chang screens for signs of oral cancer during every routine dental exam, because early detection and treatment can save more than just your oral health—it can save your life.
